Marriage Preparation
Before You Say, "I Do", explore the principles and acquire skills that are essential in laying a solid foundation for marriage.
A wedding ceremony is a one day event; marriage is a journey ordained to last a lifetime. Therefore, at the Inter-Denominational Church of God (ICOG), we focus on marriage preparation and not just the wedding ceremony. Our goal is to empower couples for a fulfilling, lifelong marriage relationship by providing them with the necessary Biblical foundation and tools to build a successful marriage.
Marriage preparation at ICOG includes completion of the Preparing for Marriage class and counseling sessions with an ICOG pastor. The Preparing for Marriage class consists of six to eight fun, interactive small group sessions and private meetings with a mentoring couple.
Participating couples will explore:
- The Purpose of Marriage
- The Commitments of the Marriage Union
- Authentic Communication and Conflict Resolution in Marriage
- Roles and Responsibilities in Marriage
- Money in Marriage
- Intimacy in the Marriage Relationship
The purpose of this class is:
- To provide couples with Biblical principles to establish a solid foundation for marriage
- To provide practical skills for a lifelong marriage
- To dispel the myths, unrealistic expectations and false concepts about marriage by providing practical insights into the realities of marriage
- To help couples and their pastor(s) evaluate their "marriage readiness"
It is our desire to nurture, equip and support couples in their preparation for the most important union of their lifetime so that they enjoy a lasting, fruitful marriage relationship. Consequently, we require that couples who wish to be married at ICOG or by an ICOG pastor participate in our pre-marriage class and meet with an ICOG pastor in preparation for their marriage.

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. (Psalms 127:1 NIV)
